Treorchy Comprehensive School

On Saturday 12th March, 5 pupils from Year 11 and 12: Curtis Ball, Joseph Bevan, Ffion Thomas, Lauren Evans and Sabrina Waters did a sponsored abseil at Sea Walls in the Avon Gorge. Pupils were raising money for their Uganda expedition taking place in July this year. Eight pupils will be travelling to Uganda in Africa for two weeks to live and work in a poor rural community. The pupils will be involved in project work and will be helping out in lessons in the local primary and secondary school. Pupils want to experience Ugandan life and hope to help make a difference in the lives of the people they meet. They will also have the opportunity to visit the source of the River Nile and the famous Sipi Falls.

The pupils were quite nervous before the abseil which was down an 80 feet cliff face but were very proud of their achievement afterwards. They worked very well as a team supporting and encouraging each other. It was a great bonding experience! The pupils were a real credit to the school.
