Treorchy Comprehensive Pupils cheer England in their 1st Test Match against Sri Lanka at Cardiff.

Pupils from Year 7, 8 and 9 were taken to the Swalec Stadium to watch the Test Match between England and their South-Asian opponents Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka are currently 4th in the World ICC World rankings and England are one place above them, in third. Expectations were high and the boys were looking forward to a very entertaining game.
The weather was perfect and allowed the boys to watch some good quality Test Match cricket with Sri Lanka batting for the majority of their visit. Fortunately for we picked the one good day where the weather didn’t affect play. The Barmy Army kept the crowd lively and our pupils were keen to join in the fun, creating their own Mexican waves and singing chants to cheer on their favourite players.
The day was packed with fun things to do to keep our pupils entertained. There were ‘N Power’ signs being waved, an opportunity to watch the making of cricket bats, getting pictures with the illustrious ‘Ashes’ trophy and rubbing shoulders with many celebrities. Some pupils even managed to get their pictures and messages on the big screen.
The pupils were thrilled with the day and have all found a new sport which they can follow, play and enjoy. I’m sure the memorabilia they all have (some signed by the players) would make the likes of ESPN jealous (as well as Mr. Murray).
Hopefully this unique experience will be one that remains in their memories for a very long time.
Cricket training is on after school every Tuesday, so come on boys – don’t like cricket…love it!!!
