Congratulations to Senior Prefect Rhiannon Lee who has gained a Merit Award from Aberystwyth University after sitting a Scholarship exam in Biology. As recognition of this achievement Rhiannon has secured herself an unconditional offer to study Genetics and Human Health at Aberystwyth next year and an award of £1000.

Meanwhile, David Evans, Zoe Stone, David Terrell and Vimal Patel have successfully completed a module through the Open University’s Young Applicants in Schools and Colleges Scheme (YASS) which enables academically gifted students in Year 12 and 13 to study a wide range of undergraduate modules at first-year level alongside their AS and A levels. The scheme has given the pupils a taste of what’s to come at university next year.

Finally, the Sutton Trust has given five Sixth Form students the chance to experience university life this summer. Beating off stiff competition from thousands of applicants, Emma Campbell, Thomas Davies, Elliott Howells and Ieuan Williams have been accepted to Cambridge University’s summer school, whilst Matthew Gibson has been accepted to study at Nottingham University’s summer school. They will be studying Veterinary Medicine, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Geography and Film Studies respectively. Long may their success continue.
