CENTRE DETERMINED GRADES 2021
Introduction
Treorchy Comprehensive school has been aware since November 2020, (following the announcement by the Education Minister Kirsty Williams) that this year’s examinations would be cancelled, and these would be replaced by Centre Determined Grades for all Welsh qualifications and Teacher Assessed Grades for any examinations falling outside the remit of Qualifications Wales . This page outlines the procedures which the school will follow to undertake this process. Our aim is to offer clarity and reassurance to all stakeholders of the process. Treorchy Comprehensive School will base its Centre Policy to awarding qualifications in Summer 2021 around the guidance offered to schools by Qualifications Wales, the exam regulator, ‘Guidance on Alternative Arrangements for approved GCSEs, AS and A Levels’. For examinations and qualifications which fall outside the remit of Qualifications Wales, Treorchy Comprehensive School will adhere to the Ofqual guidance when this is published. (AQA, Pearson, NCFE).

Please final below the Treorchy Comprehensive School Final CDG Assessment Policy which has been approved by the WJEC and Qualifications Wales. In addition we have included the WJEC appeals policy which will be followed by the school should any student wish to appeal the CDG grade. The TCS policy makes reference to the WJEC policy regarding Appeals and updated on the methods students will need to follow should they wish to appeal their grades will be updated here.
GCSE/AS Level
To assist all stakeholders in understanding how departments have approached the classroom based assessments and how they will make their final decisions on the ‘Best fit’ CDG for each student. Please find below an overview taken from the ‘Subject Assessment Plans’ (SAPs) created by every department undertaking CDG. The section of the SAP made available below shows an overview of how the Classroom based Assessments and the other assessment opportunities (such as NEAs or practical Assessments), cover the Assessment Objectives of each qualification as set out by their Subject Specifications. Please be aware as stated in the CDG policy that coverage of the Assessment Opportunities may vary from student to student. Within this section you will also have access to an overview of the Timeline set out by every Department. This Timeline outlines the Assessment windows for each of the Assessment Opportunities within their subject area. Please be aware that should these dates need to be amended (due to extenuating circumstances) all students will be advised in a timely manner.
