Fifty girls from years 7-11 went to the House of Sport in Cardiff for an introductory rugby session with the Cardiff Blues. There were over 500 young girls from all over the region taking part and it was inspiring to see so many young girls involved in sport.
The aim of the day was to target girls who have never played rugby before to try and encourage them to get involved in girl’s rugby and to change the stereotype that ‘rugby is only for boys’. The day was made up of around 15 skill sessions where pupils were exposed to common skills involved in rugby which could be transferred from other sports. Stations included rugby tennis, fitness, hand eye co-ordination drills, obstacle courses and a game of touch rugby.
All the Treorchy pupils that attended were excellent and threw themselves into every skill session with great enthusiasm.
